It is taken for fact that one can make a left hand turn on red at all intersections forming the Hunt County Courthouse Square.  A check with Greenville Police is quite the opposite.  There have been numerous collisions at the four corners of the courthouse due to this practice.  The police spokes person, Autumn Barton, said “citations will be issued should an officer witness you making a left turn on red.

Unless this just changed whenever I went to Mr.Moneys driving school he always told us we could make a left at the courthouse on red. So that’s how I’ve always done it.

  3. I am not familiar with this intersection, but perhaps the author should have clarified.

TRANSPORTATION CODE**CHAPTER 544. TRAFFIC SIGNS, SIGNALS, AND MARKINGS

In the absence of a stop line, the operator shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. After stopping, standing until the intersection may be entered safely, and yielding right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and other traffic lawfully using the intersection, the operator may

I was always taught that is was okay to turn left going around the court house square (even if the light is green or red) in Greenville tex. But just because you can turn left doesn’t mean you hàve all the right of way…You yeild to traffic and then proceed to the left!! So does this mean you CANNOT TURN LEFT AROUND THE COURTHOUSE SQAURE ANYMORE WITHOUT À GREEN LIGHT??

  5. it was my understanding the law changed with the right on red law. left turn from a one way street to another one way street after stop is ok

I was taught to not turn left on red no matter where you were. Matter of fact I almost got hit here the other day cause someone thought it was okay to turn on red.

I’ve been driving in Greenville over 50 years and I always was told it was legal to turn left on red if you were in the left lane on a one way street and turning left onto a one way street staying in the left lane. You had to yield to oncoming traffic the same as making a right on red.

the problem isn’t with people turning left, the problem is people don’t stay in there lane when they turn they move up one lane, if you are in the far left lane when you turn left stay in the far left lane when you turn don’t move into the middle lane when you make your turn that is an illegal turn……

  9. The posts about texas state law are entirely irrelevant every city’s roads are different which is why it is a city ordnance not a state law matter good luck to you all and im tired of seeing 18 wheelers pile-drive cars in these intersections
