Jerri Walker is a retired teacher from Caddo Mills. Jerri lost her husband to cancer. This is the reason Jerri jumped onto the Darla team.
Team Darla is a group of 100 or more supporters of Caddo Mills mother, teacher, and grandmother, Darla Callender. There are more than one hundred supporters of Darla in Caddo Mills and Hunt County. Darla was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, completed treatment and was a survivor. Word was just received that the disease is back and Team Darla has reorganized itself to offer monetary support, prayer, and uplifting encouragement.
There is not a family in Hunt County that has not been touched by this disease. It may be your mother, father, uncle or aunt. Your child may have cancer. You may have cancer. The important thing is to fight it aggressively. Surround yourself with loving friends and supporters. Form a team to encourage one another. Great strides have been made in fighting this dread disease with radiation, chemotherapy and radiation.
Darla is undergoing treatment in Dallas every other week or so. The Caddo Mills team is pulling for her daily in prayer and encouragement. Sometimes treatment robs you of your inner strength but it is important to carry on and not give up. Cancer can be beat.
Jerri says that “it is important to realize that we are not promised tomorrow. When an opportunity comes up to check something off of your bucket list then do it”. That opportunity came for Jerry last Saturday when barnstorming pilot Larry Dodson was offering helicopter rides from a grassy field just north of Lone Oak, Texas. Jerri jumped at the chance. “Life is too short not to enjoy your day” she said.
