Roger Clayton Kirby, 92, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at his home. Funeral services celebrating Roger’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Quinlan Church of Christ with Randy Reagan and Ron Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quinlan. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan.
Roger was born April 28, 1924 in Howe, Texas. He is the son of the late C.C. Kirby and Eula Frances Clayton Kirby. He was raised and graduated from High School in Howe. He entered the United States Army during WWII and honorably served our country until his discharge in 1946. Upon his discharge he returned to Van Alstyne where he met and married the former Miss Cleva Hansard on February 15, 1947. In 1955 they moved to Garland where he worked as a warehouseman for DeSoto Paint for 32 years. In 1980 they moved to rural Hunt County where he was a rancher. Mrs. Kirby preceded him in death on June 12, 2001. He was an avid Texas Ranger fan and Dallas Cowboy fan. He was a member of the Caddo Mills Church of Christ. Anyone who knew him knew him as being a great Christian man who cared about everyone’s soul.
He is loved and will be missed by his daughter Carol Draehn and husband Larry of Terrell; sons Gary Kirby and wife Paula of Mountain View, AR, Don Kirby and wife Robyn of Quinlan, Mark Kirby and wife Pam of Royse City; 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brother Tracy Kirby and wife Vicky of North Carolina; sister Jane Bolerjack and husband Stewart of Dennison; several nieces, nephews and friends.
