The wait is almost over for fans of Blue Bell Ice Cream.
A major listeria outbreak this past spring forced production to shut down at all of Blue Bell’s processing plants, including the flagship creamery in Brenham. Since then, Texans have been forced to make do with what some call mediocre brands of ice cream, while the company focused on making safety upgrades and implementing new procedures aimed at making the product safer.
It was announced this afternoon that the “Best Ice Cream In the Country” will return to store freezers beginning August 31, when the Houston and Austin areas, as well as stores in Alabama.
Areas in North Texas, including here in Hunt County, will be placed in “Phase Two”, with a date scheduled to be announced as supply numbers allow. The website to check the company’s progress is cdn.bluebell.com/locator.
