Citizens’ Police Academy is Just Around the Corner!

The Greenville Police Department is currently taking applications for their bi-annual Citizens’ Police Academy, which starts September 14th.

The Citizens Police Academy is open to anyone who lives or works in the City of Greenville and at least 21 years of age.  Members of each class meet on Monday nights over a 10-week period and cover all aspects of police operations.  These classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours, hands-on participation, and riding along with an officer.

Topics included in the Academy program are 911/Dispatch communications, patrol operations, crime prevention, narcotics training, tactical unit training, K-9 training, DWI procedures, family violence training, and criminal investigation/CSI training.

The final day of class will be November 16, and this session of the Academy will culminate with a banquet on Friday, November 20.

Classes in the program are free of charge, but you must sign up by September 1st.  Applications can be picked up online, at the Police and Courts Building at 3000 Lee Street, or at the Municipal Building at 2821 Washington Street.
