Kevin Banks, manager of the Greenville Municipal Auditorium, briefed the Daybreak Rotary Club on reconstruction progress. You will not recognize the auditorium now. The old butt numbing seats are gone, scaffolding is in place to re-plaster the walls, and ceiling tiles are being replaced.
Theater curtains and rigging are in place, the lobby us refurbished, new lighting fixtures are hung above the stairwells and in the lobby, fresh paint and carpet installed. The interior walls are being restored to its original 1930 style. The curvy lines are being replicated with Styrofoam and plaster. Gold leaf, green, black, off-white and maroon paint will enhance the new seats that will arrive on September 15th.
Kevin thanked all of the volunteers that helped to remove the old seating in the balcony and main auditorium. Several teen aged workers from the cast of Meet Me in St. Louis helped when they were not practicing for the production.
The first production will be during the Bob Wills Fiddle Festival. Asleep at the Wheel and Time Jumpers will open the Ken Threadgill Entertainment event. Tickets are on sale at Cavenders Western Wear.
