A big story last February resulted when human remains were discovered in a field just east of the Majestic 12 Theater. The remains were only partial and skeletonized but they have been identified. Cadaver dogs assisted in the search.

Judge Wayne Money, Justice of the Peace, performed an inquest at the time of discovery and ordered the remains taken for forensic comparison and possible identification at the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.

The Greenville Police Department received a report of findings from Wendy E. P. McQuade, PhD, Senior Forensic Anthropologist at the UNT Center for Human Identification.  The report is based upon documentation recovered at the scene and multi-point comparisons of x-rays and CT images taken prior to death with the remains that were recovered.  The remains have positively been identified as belonging to Ilona Janet Vance, white female, with a date of birth of December 8, 1950.

The manner and cause of death have not been determined.  The Greenville Police Department found no evidence of foul play during the initial investigation on February 12, 2015.
